A Gift From What I Already Had, a reflection on generosity with books and Aunty Foluke

A Gift From What I Already Had

October 01, 2026•2 min read

📚 I wanted to bring gifts for three children before I traveled. Buying gifts was not in my budget.

🙏 So I prayed before I reached for a card.

🏠 As I looked around my home, I saw three meaningful books I already owned. Each one suited one of the children. They were not random leftovers. They were thoughtful gifts, already in my care.

I did not have to create pressure to prove that I cared. I did not have to put generosity on credit. I could give from what I already had.

That changed the feeling of it.

Giving from fullness feels different from giving out of obligation, appearances, or fear of showing up empty-handed. Sometimes presence is the gift. Sometimes what you already carry is enough to bless someone else.

A quiet next step

⏰ Before you buy a gift this week, pause and ask what is already in your care that you could share with thought and love.

✨ Prayer

God, help me see what You have already placed in my hands. Teach me to give freely, without pressure to perform or pretend. Show me how to care for people from a full and honest place. Amen.

✨ Reflection Question

What is already in your care that could become a meaningful gift for someone else?
