WHY WOMEN WON'T INVEST IN THEMSELVES
And What It Costs Them
I watch this constantly: Women want mentorship. But they want it for free.
Not just free money—free everything. They want the wisdom, the guidance, the transformation. But they don't want to pay for it. Not with cash. Not with time. Not with service. They want it gifted to them.
And what happens? They don't use it.
Misty discovered something through her years of mentoring women. The ones who invest in mentorship—whether through money, service, or time—actually use what they learn. The ones who get it for free? They treat it like it's worth nothing.
There's a principle in the Bible about this. When something is free, quick-gotten gain like disappears. When you get something you didn't pay for, you treat it with the zero-dollar value you paid for it. You toss it. You don't use it. It becomes invisible.
But when you pay for something—whether through money, service, or sacrifice—you value it differently. You use it. You protect it. You get results from it.
Misty tells the story of a woman she mentored. The woman had recently become a widow, raising seven kids alone. She had the wisdom Misty desperately wanted. So Misty made an investment. Every month, she drove an hour to see her. She cleaned her house. She helped her. She served her. She bartered her time and service for the woman's wisdom and presence.
It cost Misty something. And because it cost her something, she valued it. She protected it. She used it. And decades later, she's still reaping the benefits.
Compare that to the countless women who get free coaching, free resources, free guidance—and do nothing with it. They never implement it. They never follow through. They never see the results. Why? Because they didn't invest anything in it.
Here's the hard truth: If you're not willing to invest in your own growth, mentorship, coaching, or financial wisdom, you're not ready for it yet.
That doesn't mean it has to be money. Misty talks about bartering. She paid for a mentor's meals at fancy restaurants. Another woman cleaned houses so she could afford coaching. Another did admin work for a coach in exchange for services. The point isn't the payment method. The point is that you value the investment.
When you value it, you show up differently. You ask better questions. You actually implement what you learn. You follow through. You get results.
But here's what I'm observing in my own work: Women especially struggle with this. We want relationship and mentorship, but we want it for free. And that's a poverty mentality talking.
A poverty mentality looks at mentorship and thinks, "She's trying to get over on me. She's trying to get rich off my back." A prosperity mentality looks at the same mentorship and thinks, "I'm investing in myself. What will I gain from this? What is the return on my investment? And if I'm only paying $500 for mentorship that will change my life, I'm getting way more than I'm paying."
One mentality sees the cost. The other sees the return.
So here's my challenge: Where are you not investing in yourself? What mentorship, coaching, or growth opportunity are you waiting for to be free before you say yes? And what is that costing you?
Because the real cost isn't the investment you're avoiding. It's staying where you are.
